Medica Medicine + Sports Conference

The inaugural MEDICAL FAIR ASIA MEDICINE + SPORTS CONFERENCE took place on September 1st during MEDICAL FAIR ASIA 2016 at the Sands EXPO & Convention Centre at the Marina Bay Sand Singapore. The conference was held for the very first time in Asia following the success of the MEDICA MEDICINE + SPORTS CONFERENCE, held annually at MEDICA, the largest medical fair in the world.

Consisting of four sessions, the conference provided a comprehensive look into the world of sports medicine with the emphasis on the role of physical exercise in healthcare as well as exercise medicine (Session 1 – Create and Implement Health Guidelines), individual training programs and personalized equipment for training, regeneration and prevention (Session 2 – Training Programs & Equipment – New Findings), new approaches and best practices in vital data, sports performance monitoring and corporate health (Session 3 – Latest Innovations in Monitoring Vital Data & Sports Performance), as well as the latest digital innovations in wearable technologies and training cognitive and emotional parameters (Session 4 – Digital Innovations in Recreational & Elite Sports).

The one-day conference attracted a full conference room filled with international attendees representing a wide range of sports medicine experts. The conference participants were treated to a full day of interesting, insightful and innovative presentations from 15 expert speakers from around the world. Some of the highlights of the day were the opening keynote presentation by Dr. Ben Tan, (Chief of Sports Medicine at Changi General Hospital & Chairman of Exercise is Medicine SE ASIA & Singapore) talking about the promotion of physical activity, Vincent Phang (Deputy Director, Physical Activity and Weight Management, Health Promotion Board of Singapore) sharing the “National Steps Challenge” initiative of the Government of Singapore, as well as Dr. Jason Lee (Head of Human Performance Laboratory, DSO National Laboratories) with a presentation on performance optimization in the heat. Together with this Steve Leftly (CEO of Myovolt) and Dr. Joni Kettunen (CEO of Firstbeat) gave their insight to the digitization of sports and healthcare with innovative wearable and vital data and performance monitoring.

The conference was also supported by great organizations including Exercise is Medicine Singapore, Sports Singapore, Sport Medicine Association Singapore, WT | Wearable Technologies and FIMS (International Federation of Sports Medicine). Companies such as Firstbeat, Catapult Sports and Game Ready were also present at the conference and provided conference attendees the latest information and products in performance monitoring as well as recovery and rehabilitation.
