Jürgen Michael Steinacker, Dr. med., Ph.D., Dr. h.c., is Professor of Sports and Rehabilitation Medicine and division at the University of Ulm, Medical Center, Ulm, Germany. Born 1955, he studied medicine at the Universities of Tuebingen and Ulm and graduated 1983 and obtained 1985 a doctoral degree of the University of Ulm. He is appointed Specialist for Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Rehabilitation Medicine and Sports Medicine. He received a Doctoral degree honoris causa from Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary. Appointments include memberships in Health, Medical and Research Committee, World Anti-Doping-Agency; Medical Commission, International Rowing Federation; Baden-Wurttemberg Academy for Social Medicine; Vice-chair, Scientific Committee, German Society of Sports Medicine; chair, European Initiative for Exercise in Medicine; Chief Editor German Journal of Sports Medicine. He authored 143 original papers and reviews in reviewed journals, more than 300 abstracts, and book articles. The division of Sports Medicine provides outpatient care in cardiology and general sports medicine, including overtraining, fatigue syndromes and aging-related disorders as well as an outpatient rehabilitation center, a physiology, and performance center and a molecular muscle laboratory. The population health promotion programmes include “Join the healthy boat” in the entire state of Baden-Württemberg dealing with physical activity and healthy lifestyle in primary school and kindergarten and the University health program “Move the Eselsberg Mountain”.
